The Election Commission restored the candidacy of 26 candidates for the upcoming national election in the pre-lunch session today, on the fourth day of hearing appeals on nomination decisions.
According to EC sources, the appeals of 32 candidates against the decision of the returning officers were denied.
The verdict on the appeal filed by businessman AK Azad, an independent candidate for Faridpur-3, disputing the candidacy of Awami League candidate Shamim Haq for the same constituency, was postponed.
The decision on the challenge will be made on December 15, said EC sources.
AK claimed Shamim Haq is a dual citizen. Shamim is also a Dutch citizen, according to the appeal.
Today, the EC heard 59 appeals before the lunch break.
